Richard Solomon MD is the Founder of The PLAY Project® autism early intervention program

He has dedicated much of his career to supporting and training families of young children with autism spectrum disorders.

“Dr. Rick,” as he is known to his patients, is “the fun doctor”, a developmental and behavioral pediatrician with 25 years of experience helping (and playing with) children who have behavioral and developmental conditions.

During his 25 years of practice, he has seen hundreds of children with autism and their families every year at The Ann Arbor Center for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

As an internationally recognized expert in the field of autism services, Dr. Solomon presents to audiences across the globe on autism science, autism early intervention, and parent implemented models.

In 2014, Dr. Solomon and his colleagues at Easter Seals and Michigan State University published the largest research study in the U.S. on the effectiveness of a parent implemented model for helping young children with autism spectrum disorders.

Dr. Rick has published a book that fully describes his approach to helping families called Autism: The Potential Within, The PLAY Project Approach for Helping Young Children with Autism.

Dr. Solomon is an active member of professional societies nationally and in Michigan, is on the editorial boards of pediatric journals, has published numerous peer reviewed articles, and has received several awards for his commitment to children’s services.

He lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan with his wife of 50 years. He enjoys spending time with his two adult children and four grandchildren.
